Transform Your Hair Colour With A Winter Alter Ego

Who says your Winter Hair Colour can't be fun? Take a playful twist by adding a fresh undertone just for the season.

I'm not the biggest fan of winter, except for the cosy wardrobe and aesthetics—uggs, cardigans, and snuggly nights in front of the fireplace. Otherwise, I can find it a bit bleak. But in our world, winter offers a unique timeframe to experiment with intense Colour Undertones. These shades have a longer lifespan when the sun isn't as harsh and Colour fading.

The colder months is when we allow our Hair Colour to take a little holiday or break from reality, to make way for our winter personality or, as we call it, our winter alter ego. The winter alter ego is a Hair Colour that gives us a drastic change and impact with the least amount of effort. The winter alter ego channels a bolder personality and Colour pop, while staying close to your classic Shade. It's the time to have fun with that high-octane hue of your dreams. Always wanted to try a Copper? Had you're eye on a rich, violaceous Plum? Maybe you've wondered what a glassy inky Black would be like? The winter alter ego dares you to try it, without worrying your sun-baking and swimming will ruin your Colour before you get a chance to take it out for cocktails.

The winter alter ego is so easy because you are just throwing it over your currently Coloured Hair for a diluted/gloss Colour. So you'll get that pop of intensity you're looking for without the potency you'd expect when Colouring over Natural or pre-lightened Hair.

Embracing your winter alter ego involves choosing a hue that is of similar Lightness to your current Shade. For example, you are currently Colouring with a beautiful 6 Dark Blonde and now you want to adventure to a high-voltage hue. You'll stick to a Hair Colour in 6 Colour Range, choosing from 6.4 Dark Copper Blonde's Warm, burnished crimson reflects, 6.5 Pure Plum's Cool Warm Burgundy Violet collection of reflects or 6.22 Intense Violet's fierce Violet reflects.

Keeping in your Colour Range creates less work because you're sticking to one Colour application and means that when you are ready to return back to the real you, a Colour Remover will get you there.

I'm obsessed with 3 Dark Brown, it's a Shade I have used religiously for years and I don't ever change it up no matter how many times I fall in love with the Cherry Cola and Cowgirl Copper as I recommend it to others. I know the Cherry Cola and Cowgirl hues won't suit me and are much Lighter than the 3 Colour range, so this year I am tossing up between 1.10 Blue Black because I love the icy depth or 4.56 Deep Plum Red because I think it would be fun to be Plum

If I choose 1.10 Blue Black I will be mixing it with 20 Volume Developer, applying it first to my Regrowth (Greys, argh!) and then when I have 20 minutes left of the development clock I will apply the rest of my Colour through my ends. As 4.56 Pure Plum is a Shade Lighter I would probably wait until I have touched up my roots with my usual 3 Dark Brown and 20 Volume Developer combo. Then after a few days, I will mix 4.56 with No Lift Developer and applying it all over as a gloss.
