There is a particular kind of Blonde that only ever seems to exist under salon lighting. Cool. Glossy. Balanced. Expensive.
And then there is real life. Warm undertones creeping in. Yellow gold appearing where it was not invited. That faint brassiness that builds slowly, then suddenly takes over.
If you are looking at a My Hairdresser Toner Kit wondering whether it is the answer, here is exactly what it is, how it is different from purple shampoo or silver masks, and how to use it for professional, longer-lasting toning at home.
What Makes our Toner Kits Different?
Purple shampoo and silver conditioners work like surface filters. They deposit a temporary violet or blue tint during washing to visually soften yellow Tones. They rinse away. They fade quickly.
They are maintenance. They don’t inject pigment in the same way a Colour gloss does.
Our Toner Kits were created because we wanted something that mimicked that post-Colour finish. That extra gloss. That subtle pigment boost. That balanced Cool Tone that doesn’t look flat or overly purple.
A My Hairdresser Toner Kit is a professional-style gloss Toner system designed to:
• Neutralise yellow, gold and brassy undertones
• Deposit controlled Ash, Silver or Beige pigment
• Boost shine with a gloss-like finish
• Deliver longer-lasting toning than a rinse-out product
Toner Kits are not a lightener.
It does not lift your natural Colour.
It does not cover grey.
Instead, our Toner Kits use a Cool Permanent Hair Colour mixed with a No Lift Developer to deposit pigment only. No lift. No lightening. Just Tone correction and gloss enhancement.
How The Toner Kit Started
We created Toner Kits because our founder naturally throws a lot of Warmth—no matter what Colour she uses, those red undertones always peek through. We’ve never loved purple Toners—they feel flat, matte, and suck the fresh shine right out of your Hair.
So we started experimenting with our Hair Colours and discovered that toning can actually be glossy, balanced, and Cooled—Hair that looks like you meant it to. That’s how the original Light Ash Toner Kit was born. One simple mix, completely different results, and now a full range of five Toner Kits, each designed to give every Hair level the perfect depth of pigment.
Choosing The Right Toner Kit
We’ve made our Toner Kits to cater to Warmth and depth, so each Hair type gets the most out of its Tone. Here’s how to pick the right one:

What’s Inside The Kit?
Every Toner Kit includes:
Permanent Hair Colour
Professional Italian-made formula enriched with olive oil and Cool pigments. We use it for pigment and gloss, not for lifting.
No Lift Developer
Low-strength developer that activates the Colour without lightening.
Applicator Bottle
Mix, shake and apply. Designed for easy, controlled distribution, even around roots and tricky areas.

How To Use Your Toner Kit
Start with dry Hair
It’s best if your Hair hasn’t been washed for a day or so and is free from styling products. Comb through and section your Hair into four quadrants—this makes it easier to work methodically, tackling one section at a time.
Mix your Toner
In the Applicator Bottle:
Pour in the full bottle of No Lift Developer
Squeeze in the full tube of Colour
Tip: If you have short Hair or only need a small amount, you can use half of each and reseal the rest for another session.
Screw on the nozzle and shake well until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
Where to start
Begin with the areas that show the most Warmth—this could be:
Freshly Coloured roots
Mid-lengths
Underneath sections
Any area that tends to pull gold or brass
For extra-light Blonde or highlighted Hair, start with the darker sections first. Lighter, porous ends absorb pigment faster and may need less processing time.
Set your processing time
Toning time depends on your Hair and the result you’re after. Keep a close eye on your Hair and rinse once you’ve achieved your desired Tone. Here’s a simple guide:
10 minutes: Quick refresh; very light or delicate Hair; slight neutralisation
15 minutes: Moderate Warmth; subtle Cool shift; balanced Tone
20 minutes: Maximum for most Hair types; full neutralisation; Cool, glossy finish
20–30 minutes: For Hair that consistently throws Warmth; check frequently to avoid over-toning
