We created My Hairdresser to give all home Hair Colourer’s the freedom to create the Hair Colour they wanted because that was what we wanted. This meant designing mixable Hair Colours, ensuring a Colour Consultant team was always ready to give guidance and Support Pages that answered all your questions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We know it’s often in Hair Colour that you might need to add a few tweaks to achieve what you want and it is imperative to us that our range gives you the ability to do just that. We took this same approach to Toning. Unhappy with what we were using, we completely overhauled how we Tone and it has transformed our Hair Colour. Interested in joining us? Keep reading.
Why do you want to Tone?
To smooth out the nasty brassies that show up through your Hair in flashes of yellow or orange tones and tarnish the whole appearance of your Hair Colour. Toning counteracts these nasty brassies with Cooling pigments that mute and neutralise any Warmth.
Toning is for anyone who wants a Cool hue.
Toning is generally associated with Blondes, particularly Platinum or Very Light Blonde Shades, however, in reality, Toning is for anyone who struggles with Warmth. I, for example, Naturally have a lot of Warmth that will need to be smoothed out every other Regrowth Touch Up regardless of if I am Colouring my Hair with a Blonde or Brunette Shade — Warmth always finds its way through because I have a natural predisposition to it.
Why don’t we use purple Shampoo?
We approached Toning differently because we are regular Toners and purple shampoos, rinses, shampoos didn’t cut the mustard. We found these products left our Hair with a flat, dullness and, in some cases, even a purple tinge post Toning.
We need a longer-lasting and low maintenance Toner that doesn’t take over your Hair Colour, so after Toning your Hair is Cooled with a refreshed, Natural gloss over it. Through our various trials, we discovered this can only be achieved with a Hair Colour.
How to Tone
Toning is made simple with our Toner Kit which includes a 9.1 Very Light Blonde, No Lift Developer and Applicator Bottle that can be applied to the Hair for a maximum of 20 minutes — it all depends on your individual Toning needs.
However, you can take more control over your Tone by continuing to use a No Lift Developer (the only Developer you can use to Tone because it has no Lightening abilities and when you’re Toning you want zero Lightening abilities), Applicator Bottle and switching your Cool pigment.
Find your Cooling pigment
Choose your Cooling Strength
There are 3 Cooling pigments — Ash, Beige and Silver.
Ash and Silver Colours are the strongest Toners because they have predominately Blue pigments that appear in the Hair as a smokey, silvered tone. They will deliver the strongest result.
Beige Colours are the weaker Toners with predominately Green pigments that appear in the Hair as a milky, creamy Tone.
Choose your Lightness.
Once you have decided how strong you want your Cooling pigment to be, choose the Cool Shade that is the same shade or Lighter than your Hair Colour you are Toning.
