There is a lot to consider during Race Week: The location, the dress, the Hair. We can at least help you on the Hair front. We have put together a Survival Guide to get your Hair through the Melbourne Cup, so you can have more fun, less stress.
Tip 1: Hands Off!
Once you have done your Hair, be done with it. Don't spend the day touching your Hair, unless it is for touchups. Over touching will cause messy Hair and cause your Hair style to fall out quicker. You want your Hair to last the whole day.
Tip 2: Consider a low maintenance Hairstyle.
Of course you want to look good, but you also want to be comfortable. Choose a Hairstyle that looks beautiful, but doesn't require constant attention throughout the day. Remember there will be a lot of cheering, eating and drinking to focus on, let alone your Hair!
Tip 3: Product is your friend.
When your getting ready, use Product. If you have chosen an up do, hairspray will be your best friend. Consider a Straightening Serum when straightening. Remember to cover your fly aways.
Tip 4: Keep some Product on hand.
For touch ups or fly aways. But don't over do it!
Tip 5: Consider your Fascinator/Hat when choosing your Hairstyle.
If your going to have your Hair professionally done, take your headpiece with you.
If your headpiece is subtle, have your Hair out with a curl. If your headpiece is bold, choose a sleek, slicked back pony tail.
Tip 6: Be prepared.
It's a looooong day. Be realistic with your Hair and Headpiece choice. Have a back up plan, incase your first option doesn't work out. Take into account the weather for the day. Pop some spare bobby pins and elastics in your bag, so you can whip your Hair up at the end of the day. Most importantly, have a great time!
